Today Sprint Nextel launched the first phone that operates on both iDEN and CDMA networks, the Motorola ic502. The dual network capability allows the phone to take advantage of the best of both networks. It will use the iDEN network for push-to-talk and CDMA for voice and 1xRTT highspeed data trasnfer. The Motorola ic502 is a rugged flip phone featuring speakerphone and Java.
The ic502 will be initially released only in select metropolitan areas. No wide-spread release date has been announced yet.
