Samsung Knack U310 Reviews

Knackered
Rating:

PROS: Nice large interior screen. Nice large buttons on keypad make it easy to scroll through menus, etc...

CONS: Antenna located at BOTTOM of phone where you hold it. DUH! Processor is slow to, well, process your commands you type into keypad. Just a slow, slow menu system. Okay, what's with the exterior screen? Isn't it supposed to be easier to read for, uh, older folks like me? Shouldn't it be color? Isn't color easier to read? Side buttons for volume and other functions are incredibly easy to hit; they give far too easy.

SIGNAL/SOUND: The signal simply SUCKS. Reception is horrible everywhere. What's up with that? Put an exterior antenna on this sucker! I don't care! Sound is good but hollow. Sometimes you have a hard time making out what's being said.

OVERALL: A lackluster effort on Samsung's part. I'm 38 and I reupped for 2 yrs because all I wanted was a truly simple, no frills handset to use for talking maybe 300 minutes per month/10 texts per month. Samsung can't even get a simple phone right. What's this world coming to?

I'm on the Verizon network in South Florida.

older crowd
Rating:

I read the other reviews and what has been said is partially true. I travel all over New England and the reception is so terrible I thought I was back in the 90's, good in the city but no where else. Samsung had a nice simple phone but they screwed it up.

Text is large and easy to read
Volumn is loud
Just for calls and text messages
No thrills and BS stuff
good for the city dweller

Cons
No or very limited reception,
No password protection when powering up the phone
Ring tones are lousy, so you have to buy them
Not good for a commuter or traveler

Great for Seniors
Rating:

I got his phone for my 85 year old mother to replace her old Motorola E815 which finally died. This phone's buttons and display are much easier for her to see and is just loud enough for her degraded hearing. Not having bluetooth, a camera, nor a music player aren't issues for her since she never used those features on the old phone anyway. This phone could use a larger selection of ringtones though.

No trouble whatsoever making or receiving calls. The included charging stand makes her plugging in the charger incorrectly a thing of the past.

If you're looking for a basic phone for an elderly person, you won't go wrong with the Knack.

great for the ancient crowd
Rating:

I might be light at a 3.5...
Bought the phone for my 84 year old father who is hard of hearing, vision is less than he'll admit too, and is easily confused by gadgets.
It replaced a less than cheap phone some not so brilliant Verizon salesperson pushed him into.
He can see the screen.
Hear the person to whom he is talking.
The keys are not too small.
Can finally get his voice mail.
Were working on him understanding how to scroll through contacts. Since he has very few people he calls the speed dial (no more than 3) has come in handy.

The ringer and vibration strength do leave something to be desired.

It is the only Verizon phone for the elderly and actually does fit the bill.
A good phone for mom and dad.
